AMC College Sabah and University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) had signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) at a ceremony held at the Fakulti Perniagaan, Ekonomi dan Perakaunan (FPEP), UMS to pave the way for UMS’s students to complete their Chartered Global Management Accountant (CIMA) professional papers upon graduating. Signing the LOI for AMC College was its Chief Executive Officer Mr Bryan Lo, while UMS was represented by the Faculty Dean, Professor Datuk Dr Kassim Hj Md Mansur. Also in attendance were representative from CIMA Mr Rushdan Roslan, Country Manager, CIMA SE Asia Sdn Bhd and Mr Vinn Lim Chee Yeaw, the Senior Excutive of CIMA.
The successful ceremony serves as the first step towards a long and collaborative partnership between both institutions, who both share core beliefs of educational especially in producing Chartered Accountants to serve the country particularly in the local market.
FPEP is playing a very important role in developing their accounting degree students on the fundamental knowledge in their first four years studies. While AMC as the CGMA-FLP provider will continue the responsibility to provide full support for the FPEP Accounting degree students who wish to pursue and complete the CGMA-FLP 100% locally. Hence, the FPEP-AMC collaboration will synergize each other’s contributions to develop the FPEP students to attain the complete journey of the professional accounting qualification at the shortest time and conveniently in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
As the first provider in Sabah, AMC will be assisting the FPEP Accounting degree students in registration with CIMA, conduct face-to-face tutorial classes and writing the exam locally without which students may need to travel to Kuala Lumpur to study.
FPEP-AMC collaboration will also extend their assistance to those FPEP alumni who already currently working in the industry. Many of the FPEP alumni who at one time aspired to pursue the CGMA-FLP which has no local provider conducting it, is now can available for access at their door step.
In addition, FPEP-AMC is planning to promote the CGMA-FLP to other FPEP graduates and alumni in other disciplines such as finance, economics and business and management to qualify as a Chartered Global Management Accountant. This noble effort will surely inspire these graduates to build an alternative career in the accounting field which at the same time addressing the country’s shortage of qualified accountants.
FPEP as the leading university in Sabah that continued to produce an average of 100 accounting degree graduates annually, is the reckoned force in developing human capital in accounting discipline for Sabah state. Therefore, AMC is grateful being a collaboration partner for this contribution.
